The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the oldest departments of RIT. It was established in the year 1983, while establishing the institute. It started with its Undergraduate (UG) Program in Civil Engineering with an intake of 60. Over the years, the department has grown many times in different spheres of activities. At present, the department offers one UG program in Civil Engineering leading to the B.Tech. degree and two Post Graduate (PG) programs namely, Structural Engineering (SE) with 24 intake and Construction Management (CM) with 18 intake leading to the M.Tech. degrees. All these programs have been accredited / re-accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) New Delhi. From academic year 2024-25 the AICTE has been given the approval to start twinning program for UG-Civil Engineering and PG-Structural Engineering to start twinning program and working professional program. The department has been recognized as a Ph.D. research centre by Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
The department has 14 well established laboratories equipped with all necessary instruments/equipment including industry sponsored lab. Many of which have been strengthened by equipping them with sophisticated equipment while few are newly set up by utilizing the funds sanctioned by AICTEs schemes like MODROB, DST, etc. The department always emphasizes on community connected projects, conducts frontier area research and is pro-active in industrial interaction and technology development.
The department is having dedicated staff and highly qualified faculty, most of which are with PhDs and with minimum qualification of master’s degree in engineering. The faculty participates in several academic activities such as workshops, training programs, National and International seminars/Conferences etc. for overall development of department. Faculties of our department also invited to deliver expert lecture, key note addresses in the national/international seminars/conferences/workshops etc. They are also have representation on various committees of home and other universities.
